Why PAT Test?
If you employ people you need to be aware of your legal obligation towards your employee's and any person that use your equipment
-
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 puts a duty of care on both the employer and employee to ensure the safety of all persons using the work premises
-
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 states that 'Every employer shall ensure that work equipment in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.'
-
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 states 'As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained as to prevent, so far as resonably practicable, such danger.'
You can be sure that the breakdown of electrical appliances will be dangerous and could even be fatal. Without a certificate of testing you run the risk of prosecution and invalidating your commercial insurance policy
What Items Need PAT Testing?
PAT is short for Portable Appliance Testing so basically anything with a plug on it needs testing, here are a few examples;- Kettle lead, extention lead, battery chargers, laptop power supplies, computer power leads, fax machine power lead etc
